JRM driver Elliott Sadler was voted the 2016 NASCAR Xfinity Series Most Popular Driver. It's Sadler's second MPD award and gives JRM its fifth consecutive MPD title.

MIAMI (Nov. 21, 2016) – Elliott Sadler’s inaugural season as driver of JR Motorsports’ No. 1 OneMain Financial Chevrolet was perhaps the best of his career. The fans noticed, too, voting the 41-year-old Virginia native the NASCAR Xfinity Series Most Popular Driver for 2016.

Sadler accepted the award here Monday night during the NASCAR Xfinity Series Awards Banquet at the Loews South Beach Hotel.

“It’s an honor to be voted the 2016 NXS Most Popular Driver,” Sadler said. “This award is for the fans to give, so it’s humbling that they all took the time to vote for me. I really couldn’t ask for a better fan base, and for them to give me the honor twice in my career is incredible. This is a great week to be thankful for everything in my life and I especially want to thank everyone that voted, without our loyal fans this sport would not be what it is today.”

Sadler, who finished second in the championship point standings, earned his second MPD nod in fan voting for the award, and pushed JRM’s streak in the category to five straight. Danica Patrick kicked it off in 2012, Regan Smith won the award in 2013 and Chase Elliott won in both 2014 and 2015 prior to Sadler’s award.

Sadler, ironically enough, was the last non-JRM driver to win the award in 2011, when he raced for Kevin Harvick Inc.

Sadler’s MPD award is the seventh in the past nine years for JRM drivers, as Brad Keselowski won the honor in 2008 and 2009 while at JRM. Keselowski and Elliott are the only two JRM drivers to have won the award in consecutive seasons.
