Whitt’s finish: 14th

Danica Patrick’s 12th-place finish led the JR Motorsports teams to a pair of top-15 finishes in Friday night’s Feed the Children 300 at Kentucky Speedway. Making her stock car debut at the track, Patrick settled into a spot in the top half of the field and solidly maintained until the checkered flag fell. Patrick’s effort in the Go Daddy Chevrolet netted the team its seventh top 15 of the season. Cole Whitt saw a sure top 10 fizzle when the Degree MEN team pitted for fuel 12 laps shy of the finish. The team struggled through radio issues early in the race that forced the 88 off pit sequence with the leaders and created the shortage on its fuel window.

Danica Patrick, driver No. 7 GoDaddy.com team
“We made the most of our weekend. Our qualifying run was a little better than where we had practiced. But in the race it was one thing or another. When the balance was okay, our Go Daddy car didn’t seem like it was down in the track. It made the night a little frustrating. I felt like I couldn’t get any more out of it. I guess we just have a few things to work on and think about for next week.”

Cole Whitt, driver No. 88 Degree MEN team
“Things didn’t end up the way we had hoped tonight. Our Degree MEN car was a little loose for the start of the race. We were going to take two tires on that first pit stop, but Bruce (Cook) called for four. We were having radio problems and I didn’t hear him change the call, so I took off after they changed two. That’s what put us off pit sequence with everyone else.

“Even after all that we still had a chance at a top-10 finish. We just needed a caution in the last 25 laps. It didn’t happen. It’s a shame, but we’ll learn and move on to Daytona next week.”
