MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 27, 2021) — JR Motorsports added another championship to its tally last weekend as 9-year-old Wyatt Miller, son of L.W Miller and Kelley Earnhardt Miller, took the Wednesday Series Beginner Box Stock Outlaw Kart title at Millbridge Speedway in nearby Salisbury, N.C.
Miller drove to a fourth-place finish in the final feature to secure the championship.
The younger Miller put together a season in which he won six times at Millbridge, including two points-paying victories, in 17 races on the dirt surface, including the non-points Patriot Shootout feature in May. Following his clinching of the season championship, one of the young driver’s prizes was the opportunity to pace the field for the Carolina Midget Showdown feature race later in the program. NASCAR Cup Series driver Christopher Bell zipped up beside Miller’s No. 73 Lube Zone Truck Lube-sponsored kart during the pace laps and gave him a salute to commemorate the moment.
Overall for the season, the young driver competed in 74 races, many of them in the Midwest during the summer. The team, led by L.W. Miller and crew chief Tony Belk, who worked on and housed the Millbridge kart, is sponsored by Lube-Zone Truck Lube and Darin Odle’s Special Touch Collision Center among others, focused on the Millbridge Speedway weekly series as an introduction in Wyatt’s first full season of competition. The younger Miller won 12 races overall in 2021.
“It was a really good learning experience for Wyatt,” said L.W. Miller. “He started the season strong by winning the season opener and progressed very well. We built our schedule for his first season around the points races at Millbridge to run for the championship.”
The championship adds to JR Motorsports’ list of titles, including three in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, the 2020 NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series championship, driver and owner titles in the CARS Racing Tour Late Model Stock Car Series and Late Model track championships at both Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway and Motor Mile (Radford, Va.) Speedway.
