MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Sept. 16, 2024) – Carson Kvapil has been away from the zMAX CARS Tour Late Model Stock Car series lately, but that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten how to win in the nation’s top grassroots stock car series.
The 21-year-old driver, winner of the past two LMSC championships in the CARS Tour, returned to the seat of the No. 8 Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats & ATVs Chevrolet on Saturday night and won the 125-lap feature at South Boston (Va.) Speedway. It was his third win of the season and the 12th of his CARS Tour career, and also the first since May 3 at North Carolina’s Ace Speedway.
Qualifying sixth for the 125-lap event, Kvapil wanted his Chevrolet to turn well in the center of the corners and not be loose off them. Falling back at the start over the first 20 laps, Kvapil stayed at the back of the top 10. From there, the young driver slowly moved forward while saving tires and emerged in third position at lap 100.
A late-race restart at lap 100 gave Kvapil the chance he was looking for, and he took it. Starting on the inside line, Kvapil got a good launch and beat Ryan Millington into Turn 1 and never looked back over the remaining 25 laps on the way to his third victory of the season.
Treyten Lapcevich was the runner-up ahead of Millington, Layne Riggs and Brenden Queen.
Next CARS Tour action for the JR Motorsports Late Model team will be Oct. 12 at Tri-County Motor Speedway.

“It’s been a while. It’s been way too long since this Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats & ATVs Chevrolet group for JR Motorsports was in Victory Lane. We’re used to winning and having really good runs and I’ve been out of the seat running the Xfinity Series and some road-course stuff, so I haven’t had as many opportunities to win in the CARS Tour. We brought it back together here at South Boston, and we had a really good Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats & ATVs Chevrolet. On the final restart, I got a good roll through the box and was able to pass him (Millington) and that was the race right there. It was all about clean air and running the line you wanted to run. I didn’t want to mess around with it, so I sailed it in there and took his line away from him.
