With the NASCAR Xfinity Series’ regular season finale set to roll off on Saturday at World Wide Technology Raceway, JR Motorsports has been the class of the field.
JRM has won 15 of the 25 NASCAR Xfinity Series events (60 percent) heading into the final regular-season event, with Connor Zilisch leading the way with eight wins. Defending series champion Justin Allgaier has won three times, while Shane van Gisbergen, Kyle Larson, Daniel Suarez and Sammy Smith earned the others.
With the final regular-season race on Saturday, JR Motorsports has a chance to set a new record for victories in a season and check off a milestone in the NXS.
A victory at WWTR will do more than just set the single-season record for victories at 16. It will give the storied program at least one victory at every track the NXS has raced on since 2006.
Illinois native Allgaier is the only current JRM driver who has raced there in the series, earning the pole and leading 88 laps in 2010 on the way to a third-place finish. He’s completed 594 of the 600 laps in those starts.
In 10 starts at WWTR, JRM has a best finish of fifth in 2008 from Brad Keselowski. In addition, the team logged five top-10 results on the Midwest oval and led a total of nine laps. Seven drivers have started there for JRM, led by Keselowski with three. Other drivers that have made at least one start in a JRM car at Gateway include Danica Patrick, Josh Wise, Steve Arpin, Landon Cassill, Shane Huffman and Mark McFarland.
Team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. has a pair of wins on the 1.25-mile oval (1998-99) while driving for Dale Earnhardt Inc., leading a combined total of 99 laps on the way to those triumphs. Martin Truex Jr. (2004) won there in a Chance2 Motorsports Chevrolet as well.
