2019 Dale Earnhardt Jr. Darlington Hellmann's Memorable Moments News XFINITY Series

In a throwback paint scheme, Dale Earnhardt Jr. made our list of memorable moments with a top-five at Darlington on Labor Day Weekend.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Dec. 23, 2019) – Any time that Dale Earnhardt Jr. is on the track these days, it’s a memorable moment.

On Aug. 31, Earnhardt Jr. took the green flag in the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200 at NASCAR’s most historic track, Darlington (S.C.) Raceway in a car with a Hellmann’s paint scheme mimicking his famous father’s first career NASCAR start.

Longtime partner Hellmann’s made the start possible, and generated a ton of excitement for the 15-time NASCAR Most Popular Driver’s lone start of the 2019 season. The paint scheme featured a brilliant blue with yellow lettering, just as the 10,000 RPM Speed Equipment Dodge had on May 25, 1975 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, when Dale Earnhardt Sr. made the first of his 676 career top-level starts. Also included was the stylized No. 8 from that car, owned by Ed Negre.

“I had a lot fun today,” Earnhardt Jr. said after his fifth-place run, which led the four-car JRM contingent on the day. “I appreciate all these fans coming out to Darlington. They love this place. I’m proud of Taylor (Moyer, crew chief) and our whole team for bringing a really good car here. We did all right.”

The paint scheme was a huge hit with fans and media and generated plenty of excitement for JRM and Hellmann’s.

“Thanks to Hellmann’s for letting allowing us do the No. 8 throwback,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “A shout-out to the Negre family who owned this race car back in 1975, and a shout out to my Dad. It was fun one. You just never know how good you are until you come back and try it. This is elite [racing]. These guys are elite. All these guys in this field do this every single week and they are very talented.”

On that day, Earnhardt Jr. showed he was still among the elite, both on the track and as an ambassador of the sport.
