ALTAMAHAW, N.C. (May 26, 2020) – Connor Mosack had never seen Ace Speedway prior to Saturday night’s Late Model event. The young Charlotte, N.C. driver, prepping for the June 5 CARS Racing Tour event on the .400-mile oval, got plenty of laps and a solid understanding of what to expect when he returns in a couple weeks’ time.

Driving the No. 8 Nic Tailor/Interstate Foam & Supply Chevrolet from the JR Motorsports stable, Mosack started the event from 15th position after a bobble in Turns 3 and 4 during qualifying cost him a couple of tenths and needed the first 20 laps to sort out both the car and his line.

The field stretched out single-file and Mosack was able to move forward, gaining four spots to 11th by the time the checkered flag waved. His No. 8 Chevrolet picked up speed as the race went on, and over the final 35 laps, he was running top-five lap times. Mosack kept charging, hoping for a caution to tighten the field, but it never came and the field was too spread out to make up further ground.

Ty Gibbs won the event, which took place in front of a packed house of spectators. Trey Crews was second, followed by Trevor Ward, Dustin Rumley and Justin Johnson.

Next up for the JR Motorsports Late Model team of Josh Berry and Mosack is the June 5 CARS Racing Tour event at Ace Speedway.

“I learned a lot in my first race at Ace Speedway, and I am looking forward to going back to see how much improvement was made. This was my first time at Ace and it was a tough place for me to figure out at first. Most of the time spent in practice was trying get my line right. In the race I was able to follow the cars in front of me and after about 20 laps I felt much better. I picked up speed and was able to pass a few cars. The Nic Tailor/IFS Chevrolet felt good, and we had top-five pace the last 30-40 laps or so.”
