MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 1, 2023) - Carson Kvapil's bid for four consecutive CARS Racing Tour Late Model Stock Car victories fell short on May 17 at North Wilkesboro Speedway with an eighth-place finish.

On Saturday, the now-20-year-old driver will attempt to begin another streak in the Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour's visit to Langley (Va.) Speedway. Kvapil, team manager Bryan Shaffer and the rest of the Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats & ATVs team were primed for the annual $30,000-to-win Old North State Nationals on May 27 at Tri-County Speedway, but that event was rained out and rescheduled for Aug. 19.

The fact that his winning streak was halted at North Wilkesboro is something Kvapil wants to avenge.

"It (his finish at North Wilkesboro) makes me want to work a little harder, and we were trying to win four in a row at North Wilkesboro. We didn't have that good of a run, and I blame a lot of it on myself, not waiting to go to the front. I charged a little early and it didn't work out. We sat under a red flag and the heat in the tires kind of went away. It didn't fire off, so we put the set of right-side tires on and just fell back.

"It just makes us want to go out and get another win and show what we have. I'm sure Bryan and the guys are going to give me another great Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats & ATVs Chevrolet for this weekend."

Kvapil currently leads the points in the Late Model Stock Car series, 21 markers ahead of Wilkesboro winner Brenden Queen. In five starts so far this season, Kvapil has three wins, four top-five and five top-10 finishes. His average finish in the five races is a stellar 2.6.

Queen figures prominently in Kvapil's bid to get back to his winning ways. Last year at Langley, Kvapil nearly had victory in his grasp before Queen's late move stole the show.

After leading 122 of the 125 scheduled laps on Langley's racy .400-mile oval, a caution for a spin slowed the action and set up a thrilling finish with three to go. Queen, running second, had fresher tires than Kvapil did and used them to good effect.

Kvapil got away for the first two laps, but Queen's fresher tires made the difference and he was within striking distance as the field came around to two to go. Coming to the white flag, Queen was on his bumper and tapped the rear of Kvapil's car in Turns 1 and 2. Heading to the final turns, Queen got the nose inside and made the pass for the lead.

Kvapil did the crossover to the inside, but the third-place car of Chad McCumbee was already there and the two made contact, nearly causing Kvapil to spin. McCumbee backed out of it and allowed Kvapil to get straightened up as Queen crossed the line for the victory.

Should Kvapil manage to win on Saturday, it would be the start of another streak and a chance to avenge both last year's race and the North Wilkesboro loss to Queen.
