Race: Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway
Track Specs: .363-mile oval / Twin 40-lap features
Race 2 Winner: Corey Day
Corey Day became the latest young driver to win in the storied history of the JR Motorsports Late Model team, taking the second 40-lap main in the twin-feature format on Saturday night at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway. The 18-year-old sprint car phenom topped a good field of Late Model Stock Car drivers in what was his first start on pavement, taking the team's No. 88 Chevrolet to victory.
Day, who has won three Kubota High Limit Racing sprint car races in just 10 starts so far this season, is tabbed as the sport's next rising star, drawing comparisons to Hendrick Motorsports champion Kyle Larson in that regard. A panel at Flo Racing recently named Day the top prospect among drivers under the age of 20.
Driving the team's famed No. 88 Chevrolet, Day posted the sixth-fastest time in practice. In the first 40-lap feature, Day finished a solid seventh. The top eight finishers were inverted for the second 40-lapper, and Day started the second main from the outside of the front row. Taking the top spot on the second lap, Day bolted away from the field and led the rest of the way for his first Late Model triumph.

"It means a lot to win here in my first time on pavement..These JR Motorsports guys worked really hard. We came and practiced (Friday) and practiced all day today to get me comfortable. I appreciate everyone at JR Motorsports working hard to get a dirt guy comfortable on asphalt."
