MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Nov. 22, 2024) – Justin Allgaier is the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series driver’s champion for the first time in his career. On Friday night, during the annual NXS Awards Banquet, Allgaier added another Most Popular Driver award, his fifth in the last six seasons.
“This is such an incredible honor to win this award,” Allgaier said upon receiving the trophy. “I can’t thank the fans enough for all of their support, and for this No. 7 BRANDT Professional Agriculture team at JR Motorsports who worked so hard all year long to make this championship happen. It means the world to me.”
In addition to earning the most votes among fans again, Allgaier’s fifth award moves him ahead of former JRM driver Elliott Sadler for most among drivers and at the same time extended the streak for JRM drivers to 13 straight seasons. In all, JRM drivers have won 15 of the last 17 Most Popular Driver awards in the series.
After winning three straight MPD awards from 2019-21 and a fourth in 2023, Allgaier posted two victories, 10 top-five and 20 top-10 finishes in 2024. He claimed the title with a second-place finish in the season finale at Phoenix Raceway, overcoming a crash in practice that saw him start shotgun on the field in a backup car. During the race, Allgaier had to rally from two penalties in the final stage that saw him a lap down before charging back in the waning moments. He led 709 laps on the season as well.
In addition to the fifth award earned by Allgaier and the four from Sadler, Noah Gragson (2022), Chase Elliott (2014-15) Regan Smith (2013), Danica Patrick (2012) and Brad Keselowski (2008-09) are the other drivers to win the award for the team owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr., who is a 15-time Most Popular Driver winner in the NASCAR Cup Series.
