MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 16, 2025) – A runner-up finish on Saturday night at Virginia’s Dominion Raceway did a couple of things for Connor Hall and the Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats Late Model team at JR Motorsports.
The first thing the second-place result did for Hall, team manager Bryan Shaffer and the rest of the crew was regaining the points lead in the zMAX CARS Tour Late Model Stock Car series. The second saw the team end a string of four finishes outside the top five in the last five races heading into the event.
Hall’s strong performance in finishing second to long-time rival Mini Tyrrell gave him the top spot again as Landen Lewis finished 10th. Hall entered the race down two points to Lewis despite winning two of the first three races of the season.
The native Virginian wanted the win, of course, but the runner-up showing gave him a positive outlook heading into the July 2 mid-week event at North Carolina’s Caraway Speedway.
“As a competitor, I wanted one more spot,” Hall said after the race. “Given the last four weeks we’ve had at the race track, I think this was a step in the right direction. We fought a pretty tight Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats Chevrolet tonight, which made it hard to race for positions. That penalized us a little bit.”
Starting 10th on the fast oval at Dominion, Hall had to work his way to the front with the tight condition. As the race progressed, caution flags helped Hall rise through the order into contention. Meanwhile, Lewis had his own problems with an early pit stop and contact with another car that put him down the order.
That left Hall with a chance to regain his lead, and he took it.
“Overall, I thought we had a really fast No. 88 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet,” Hall said. “This is a real testament to all my guys for giving me a really good race car. I’m getting to live the dream even though we were one spot short. I feel really good heading into the next one and hopefully we can build on this.”
After Tyrrell and Hall, Chad McCumbee finished third, with Tristan McKee and Lanie Buice rounding out the top five.
