HUDSON, N.C. – Josh Berry played the waiting game on the final lap Saturday night at Tri-County Motor Speedway, using a crossover move to nip Garrett Campbell at the finish line by less than half a car length to win the CARS Late Model Stock Car Series Do the Dew 200.

Being mired in seventh starting spot when rain washed out qualifying, Berry ran in the top six for the first 80 laps, searching for a line that would be fast and carry him to the front. He found it, finally, with 25 laps remaining in the 100-lap LMSC feature and rode right next to the wall for several laps, eventually coming out behind Campbell in second.

A caution for an incident between two lapped cars on the final lap brought out the caution flag and sent the race to a green-white-checkered finish, and that’s where Berry made his move. Starting second on the low lane, Berry won the drag race with leader Campbell to the white flag to lead lap 100, as he and Campbell made contact several times. Entering Turn 3 on the final lap, Campbell sailed it in on the low line and pulled off a slide job on Berry to take the lead momentarily. Berry backed out of it, turned down the track in a crossover and beat Campbell to the line by 0.076 seconds to claim his career-leading 11th CARS victory. The thrilling victory, his second straight in the series at Tri-County, was his fourth CARS win of the season.

Alfredo started fifth in the 100-lapper and maintained position as the field strung out, saving tires for the end and hanging in the fifth position.  As the laps clicked down, Alfredo made his move with just less than 10 laps remaining, going three-wide in a battle for fourth. He got it and was battling for third when the last-lap caution waved. On the restart, Alfredo went to the low lane to try and move up, but the cars fanned out into three grooves and Alfredo did not have the drive-off to overcome momentum by those higher on the track. He finished fifth, his third straight top-five finish.

The JRM Late Model team will be in action next on July 15 at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va.

“The beginning part of the race I tried to bide my time kind of like normal, but this was a shorter race for us, and I felt like I was running out of time towards the end.  The car wasn't perfect, so I started searching all over and found a lot of speed on the top and picked up a couple tenths and was able to drive up towards the front at the end.  We caught a break with the last caution that allowed us to have a chance to race for the win, and we were able to get it done.  I have to say that this win probably tops the list because with about 25 to go I felt like we were going to run about fifth, and somehow I was able to use the high side to make up a lot of time. Tri-County is an awesome track for us and provides some great multi-groove racing.  We were able to gain some points as well and put ourselves in a much better spot going into Orange County in a couple weeks.”

Anthony Alfredo, driver No. 8 JR Motorsports Chevrolet team

“We got the car to handle pretty close to how we wanted it to for the race. The rain changed the track a little but the car didn't lose much of its handling from what we worked on in practice. We ran fairly conservatively in the beginning of the race and began running down the leaders in the last half of the race. I tried capitalizing on the late restart and did all I could to pick off more spots but we still ended up fifth. It was a solid night and although I wish we could have been a few spots better, I am happy with our consistency. We have been improving every week as a team. Also, congrats to Josh and his crew on their victory.”
