Justin Allgaier’s No. 7 Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet will pay homage to a similar Late Model paint scheme driven by Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kelley Earnhardt Miller and Kerry Earnhardt decades ago.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Aug. 29, 2017) – When Justin Allgaier’s No. 7 Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet rolls off the truck this weekend at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway, the car will look different than any car he’s run so far this year. It will pay homage to a similar Late Model paint scheme driven by Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kelley Earnhardt Miller and Kerry Earnhardt decades ago.

The bright white paint scheme will carry Advance Auto Parts branding in place of the iconic Mom ‘n’ Pops decals, and the track will be one state and several years away from the original, but that’s in honor of the Earnhardt siblings Late Models.

“Our car this year is the throwback to the Mom ‘n’ Pop’s Late Models that the Earnhardts drove, and it’s just a surreal moment for me,” said Allgaier, currently third in the NASCAR Xfinity Series point standings. “Being a fan of that, to be able to drive a car that I remember having the die-cast for...it’s just a surreal moment.”

The cars—Kerry drove the No. 8, Kelley drove the No. 38 and Dale Jr. was in the No. 3—ran at Hickory Motor Speedway and other tracks in North Carolina, and were well-known in Late Model circles. The paint scheme, which incorporates the darker shade of orange of Advance, is as true as is possible. The color on the Late Models was “poppy red,” the same color that Dale Earnhardt Sr. used on the interior of his No. 3 Chevrolet.

“The foundation, the nuts-and-bolts of what we drove, is still there on this paint scheme,” Earnhardt Miller, the vice-president and general manager of JR Motorsports, said of the paint scheme’s unveiling. “You’re going to be able to spot this car with the bright white.”

“It’s going to be neat at Darlington when that car comes out of the trailer,” elder brother Kerry agreed.
