Chili Bowl Justin Allgaier Karsyn Elledge News

The Chili Bowl Nationals are well underway in Oklahoma and the contingent from JRM has been part of the headlines.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 18, 2019) – Justin Allgaier was well inside the top 10 during a caution-filled Preliminary Feature on Thursday night at the 33rd annual Chili Bowl Nationals before a flat tire derailed his bid to advance to Saturday’s feature programs. Karsyn Elledge, daughter of Kelley Earnhardt Miller and a first-time participant in the annual open-wheel extravaganza, won her heat race and finished 11th in the second B-Main. The 18-year-old did not advance to the A-Main on the night.

Allgaier, driving his own No. 1A Federated Auto Parts-sponsored Ripper, advanced to the A-Main after finishing third in his heat race and second to C.J. Leary in the first qualifying race. Late in the 25-lap feature, Allgaier came upon a crash ahead of him and suffered a flat tire trying to avoid the carnage. Though he was able to change the tire under caution, he was back in the field and drove to 13th in the remaining laps. That cost him an easier route to Saturday’s championship event.

Elledge, in the No. 83 Pristine Auctions/K&C Drywall machine from Tucker-Boat Motorsports, won her heat race, topping eventual A-Main runner-up Shane Golobic to earn the victory. In her qualifier, Elledge was involved in a multi-car crash and did not finish. She was ninth in the 10-car field when it was over.

Action for Allgaier and Elledge picks up on Saturday with the “alphabet soup” of qualifiers for the A-Main, which will see the 2019 champion crowned with the coveted Golden Driller trophy.
