MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 4, 2023) -- NASCAR today released the 2024 schedule for the Xfinity Series, and there are some interesting adaptations to the 33-race slate.
Biggest changes for the 2024 slate include a drop from eight road-course events to six with the cutting of the traditional late-summer date at Road America and the return to the historic 2.5-mile oval at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
As well, Iowa Speedway will return to the schedule this season after a three-year hiatus. The return to the racy short track is set for June 15 in conjunction with the NASCAR Cup Series that weekend.
The high banks and high speeds of Talladega Superspeedway will be on the schedule twice in 2024, on April 20 and again on Oct. 5 as the second race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoffs.
Martinsville Speedway will be the cutoff race for the Championship 4 again next year, running on Nov. 2 to fill the field for the winner-take-all title race at Phoenix Raceway on Nov. 9.
Bristol Motor Speedway and Kansas Speedway will swap dates on the calendar, with Bristol hosting the regular-season finale on Sept. 20 and Kansas will be the first playoff races for the NXS eight days later.
A return to the Street of Chicago on the temporary road course there is set for Fourth of July weekend (July 6) and will be broadcast on NBC.
The West Coast road-course double at Portland International Raceway (June 1) and Sonoma Raceway (June 8) returns for 2024, and Watkins Glen will be run nearly a month later—Sept. 14, 2024—than it was in 2023.
With the addition of Talladega’s second race, the traditional double at Daytona International Speedway and two events again at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the series will face six superspeedway events. Daytona (Feb. 17) and Atlanta (Feb. 24) begin the season, with Talladega’s April 20 date following soon after.
Daytona’s traditional summer date is Aug. 23, just ahead of the second Atlanta date on Sept. 7, with Talladega’s playoff race on Oct. 5.
The seven playoff races feature a good blend of disciplines, featuring an intermediate track, a superspeedway and a road course in the Round of 12. A pair of intermediates in Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway kick off the Round of 8 with the always-tough Martinsville (Va.) Speedway as the elimination race that sets the Championship 4.
In terms of television coverage, FOX has the first 14 races of the schedule, with the April 20 race at Talladega and the May event at Charlotte Motor Speedway both broadcast on FOX. The remaining 12 events are slated for FS1.
In the second half of the season, NBC will have the Chicago Street Race on July 6, the playoff race at Talladega (Oct. 5) and the Oct. 19 race at Las Vegas and the Oct. 26 event at Homestead as its network programs, with the remaining races appearing on USA Network. The network’s Summer Olympics schedule will push the NASCAR season later in the year.
